Overall objective

 

Specific objectives:

  • to evaluate how the democratic culture dimension is embedded within primary teacher education policy and practice of the participating countries.
  • to identify initial primary teacher education policy frameworks that facilitate the integration of the democratic culture dimension into primary teacher education programmes.
  • to set up and develop a database of good initial teacher education practices that would help teachers to embed the democratic culture dimension into their educational practices.
  • to put forward recommendations relating to teaching policy and practice on integrating the democratic culture dimension into initial primary teacher education.
  • to develop resources such as teaching resources and MOOCs for pre-service and in-service training on how to integrate Competences for Democratic Culture (CDC) into primary teacher education practice.

 

Outputs/expected results:

  • A report on how the democratic culture dimension is considered within initial primary teacher education policy and practice in the participating countries (Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom) will be produced. Specific recommendations on how to embed the democratic culture dimension into primary teacher education programmes of the participating countries and of other European countries will be put forward.
  • A conference will be held to share good practices from the project. Participants will include policy makers, teacher educators, in-service and pre-service teachers and researchers.
  • An online database will be developed to collect and disseminate good practices on how Competences for Democratic Culture (CDC) are currently integrated within primary teacher education policy and practice.
  • Resources for teachers targeting primary student teachers will be made available providing guidance on how to embed the democratic culture dimension within their teaching practices.
  • A MOOC will be developed to train in-service or pre-service teachers on how to integrate the democratic culture dimension into their teaching practices.
  • A website to promote the project and the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) will be developed.
