The new Handbook for Teachers on fake news and false information is out!

Do you check the sources of what you read online? Would you be able to recognise fake news?

The new handbook for teachers on how to support their students to recognise fake news and false information found in the online environment is now available on the Digital Resistance project homepage.

The handbook provides information to empower students from 14 to 20 years old with the skills to identify fake news found online.

First setting out what fake news is and how to spot them, the handbook suggests practical activities to carry out with learners.

An example?

An enquiry-based activity can be found in Chapter 3 to teach about real-world cases of fake news. Chapter 5 offers support in establishing peer-to-peer activities that can be used both at school or through online teaching platforms.

The Digital Resistance project is funded by the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Programme “Democratic and Inclusive School Culture in Operation (DISCO)”, aimed at strengthening young people’s competences in the field of media and information literacy and promoting Digital Citizenship Education in order to encourage students to be aware of their responsibilities as citizens in the digital space.
