Welcome to the second edition of the T-Kit 9 on funding and financial management!

Since the first edition of the T-Kit, published in 2004, funding and  fundraising have evolved rapidly in the European context. Several iterations of European, national and private funding programmes in the field of youth have moved towards more professionalism, transparency, sustainability, better governance and risk management, and a stronger connection between project-based funding and organisational development.

Public and private funders have also begun accompanying applicants with more information and guidance on how to succeed with their bids. Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions impacted youth civil society organisations and youth work on many levels, with many initiatives adopting a survival and resilience modus operandi.

Digitalisation of policy and programme management is another underlying factor that has impacted the way youth organisations have to approach financial management internally and how to integrate fundraising into their processes. With a world of information on funding and fundraising a click or screen touch away, a toolkit that brings it all together in a structured, easy-to-use way will be a welcome support. And it is in this spirit that the new edition of the T-Kit on funding and financial management was prepared.

The aim of this T-Kit is to provide a blueprint for financial management and fundraising for youth non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at all levels.

This T-Kit will equip you with what you need to know and how to navigate what are often seen as technical or sometimes scary processes. We hope that with the knowledge you gain from this T-Kit, you feel more confident and will have fun learning and practising funding and financial management.
