Legislation Guide on the Protection of Migrant Children in Türkiye published

A new guide compiling Turkish domestic legislation and international human rights standards on child protection in the context of migration has been completed and published with the expert support of the European Union’s and Council of Europe’s joint action “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye”.

The guide provides a comprehensive overview of basic concepts, a list of international conventions, domestic laws, bylaws and regulations on child protection in Türkiye including on how to apply them effectively in migration, international protection and humanitarian residence processes. The procedures to be followed when working with migrant children are also analysed in relation to the child protection system in Türkiye with a reference to the principle of “the best interests of the child”. An annex including a child protection checklist for professionals working with and for migrant children is also provided to help them to effectively uphold and protect the rights of migrant children, in line with European Standards

The guide was developed with the view to strengthening the knowledge of various professionals on the applicable legal regulations concerning child protection in the context of migration in Türkiye and help them use the existing child protection mechanism more effectively, thereby ensuring a better protection of migrant children.

The action “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye”  is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”
