Software to support a more efficient system of treatment of prisoners launched for the beneficiaries of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina

For the first time in a prison of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Federation an Integrated Prison Management Information System (IPMIS) was put into function. This prison software together with the procurement of hardware equipment was developed with the support of the EU and Council of Europe programme Horizontal Facility III in close co-operation with the prison authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With the aim of building a more efficient system of treatment of prisoners that upholds the exercise of their human rights, during the past seven years, a group of local prison professionals and international consultants have been working side by side on developing a software that enables sound and transparent processing of prison related data including capabilities for a swift data exchange between different prisons and the Ministry of Justice.

As part of the overall support to prison digitalisation, a core team of prison professionals from key prison departments such as treatment, security, registry and health care and IT administrators were trained in two pilot prisons in Mostar and Zenica with the remaining five prisons in the competence of the Federal Ministry of Justice to follow.

The action “Further strengthening the treatment of detained and sentenced persons in line with European standards in Bosnia and Herzegovina“, is implemented by the Division for Co-operation in police and deprivation of liberty of the Council of Europe, and is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
