Imagine a justice system where women are met not only with legal protection, but with genuine care, shared responsibility and meaningful solidarity. This vision brought together public institutions, academics and civil society in Ankara for the roundtable meeting “From Care Ethics to Solidarity: A Transformative Framework for Women’s Access to Justice.”
The event opened with a thought-provoking presentation by Prof. Dr. Gülriz Uygur, who guided participants through the core ideas of care ethics; relational responsibility, attentiveness to vulnerability and context-sensitive approaches, showing how these principles can reinforce legal mechanisms and lead to more holistic support for women seeking justice in Türkiye.
Participants examined three core themes: the obstacles that undermine solidarity, the solutions needed to overcome them, and the promising practices that can strengthen collective action. The discussions emphasised that solidarity must be a deliberate ethical practice supported by fairer resource distribution, stronger coordination mechanisms, recognition of local expertise and more preventive, gender-sensitive public policies. Participants highlighted good practices such as equality-based service provision, gender-responsive budgeting and community-level cooperation models.
The roundtable provided a shared space to reflect on these challenges and to identify ways to reinforce ethically grounded, sustainable and collaborative approaches to improve women’s access to justice in Türkiye.
