A survey on the use of the European Convention on Human Rights (the Convention) and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights by the Serbian judiciary conducted by the Council of Europe was presented in Belgrade on 23 October 2018. The Round table gathered representatives of courts, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of European Integration, academia and international organizations who used the opportunity to discuss the lessons that could be drawn from the survey and possible follow-up actions.
The survey assessed the capacity of judges, judicial advisors and assistants to make references to the Convention based on a number of factors, including the knowledge of English or French, awareness of relevant databases, accessibility of the Strasbourg Court’s case law and the availability of Internet at their work places.
The survey was conducted in the framework of the Action "Supporting Effective Remedies and Mutual Legal Assistance", which is implemented in Serbia as a part of the “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey”, jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
