Horizontal Facility

Members of the Commission for the Evaluation of the Work of Judges and court presidents in Serbia strengthened their knowledge and practical skills to apply new procedures for evaluating judicial performance.

Two two-day sessions, organised in co-operation with the High Judicial Council, focused on how the new evaluation system will work in practice. Participants explored the new criteria, data sources and methods used to assess the work of judges and court presidents, including how to apply the criteria and prepare the reasoning of the decisions.

Guidelines included in the High Judicial Council’s Manual on Evaluation of Work of Judges and Court Presidents, prepared with the support of the Action, were thoroughly discussed and utilised for analysing the practical examples. The participants’ knowledge on the new procedures for performance appraisal of judges and court presidents was enhanced, whereas the peer-to-peer exchange during the training contributed to clarification of potential challenges that may arise in practice.

This activity was organised within the Action “Strengthening legal culture in Serbia and the capacities of the judicial and prosecutorial councils”, which is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye.”
