Back Youth Civic Space - intro

In recent years, Europe has witnessed a concerning trend of shrinking civic space, with increasing restrictions on the activities of civil society organisations, notably those led by young people.

Shrinking civic space, democratic backsliding, and restrictions on civil society all impact youth engagement. The upcoming activities under this priority will promote youth participation in democracy and counter shrinking space for youth civil society.

In 2028, the Youth Partnership will conduct a European-wide study on youth civic space to reassess the current state of play. The research will support the Council of Europe, the European Commission, public authorities, youth organisations, and other stakeholders in their efforts to safeguard democratic participation and civic engagement of young people across Europe.
