European Route of Charles V

The Pozzo di San Patrizio is a historic well in Orvieto, Italy. It was built in the 16th century at the behest of Pope Clement VII. He had taken refuge at Orvieto during the sack of Rome in 1527 by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles, and feared that the city's water supply would be insufficient in case of a siege.

@annamarcis is the winner of the #Routes4U photo competition for the Adriatic-Ionian Region. The European Route of Emperor Charles V was certified "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" in 2015.
