A three day capacity building activities on access to justice in cases of domestic and gender-based violence and cases where children are involved was conducted for 50 employees of the Regional Offices of the Ministry of Justice, Centers for Social Work and the Ministry of Interior.
The training aimed to improve the skills and the effectiveness of the employees of the Regional Offices of the Ministry of Justice (ROs) and the Centers for Social Work (CSW) especially when dealing with domestic and gender-based violence cases. The particular focus of the discussions was the improvement of the co-ordination and the co-operation between the CSW, the ROs and the MoI. In addition, one of the objectives of the training was to assist the relevant public professionals to get a comprehensive overview of European standards concerning justice for children, in particular the standards of the European Court of Human Rights developed in its case law against North Macedonia (Case of Mitovi, Case of Oluri and Case of Mitrova and Savic). This would contribute to a more successful and consistent application of the European standards in their daily work.
The action “Towards a Consolidated and More Efficient Free Legal Aid (FLA) System in North Macedonia” is part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye III”, a joint European Union and Council of Europe programme implemented by the Council of Europe.
