Advancing women’s rights protection in Türkiye through strategic litigation training

As many as 47 lawyers from the Bursa Bar Association and CSO representatives (42 women, 5 men) are now better equipped to use strategic litigation as a tool to advance women’s rights and promote gender equality in Türkiye, following a specialised training organised under the joint European Union and Council of Europe action “Fostering women’s access to justice in Türkiye.”

The training provided participants with practical tools to identify cases that could influence legislation, public opinion and systemic reform for gender equality. Through guided, practical exercises, they developed persuasive amicus curiae briefs and third-party interventions, thus transforming theoretical insights into tactics ready for immediate use in real-world litigation.

The action “Fostering women's access to justice in Türkiye” is part of the European Union and Council of Europe’s joint programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye“. It contributes to enhancing accessibility and quality of legal aid services for women and supporting key stakeholders, including civil society, as well as increasing legal awareness and literacy among women in Türkiye.
