The Action “Accountability of the Judicial System” was launched on 24 November 2016 in Podgorica, as a part of the Joint Co-operation Programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey”.

The impact of the Action will be strengthening the capacity of the Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils and of the Centre for Training in Judiciary and State Prosecution, and the accountability of the whole judicial system in Montenegro.   

During her presentation at the launch event in Podgorica, Ms Sophio Gelashvili, Head of the Justice Sector Reform - Unit 2, in the Directorate General for Human Rights and Rule of Law (DG1) of the Council of Europe, illustrated the training and outreach events targeting judges, prosecutors, staff of the Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils and the Judicial Training Centre entailed by the Action.  

The launch event was attended by representatives of all partner institutions in Montenegro, the Judicial Council, the Prosecutorial Council, the Centre for Training in Judiciary and State Prosecution, the Ministry of Justice, and the Office of the Supreme State Prosecutor, the Supreme Court and the Bar Association.

The event was largely covered by local and regional media.
