On the 26 September, the Council of Europe organised a first consultation meeting with prison and police professionals on detention procedures in Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the framework of a new joint project between the European Union and the Council of Europe “Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons”.
The meeting in Sarajevo was attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies and ministries of justice as well as the CoE accredited team of prison staff trainers. During the two-day meeting, the discussion focused on a number of recommendations by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) as well as on the means to improve human rights protection of persons deprived of liberty.
This project comes under the under the European Union and Council of Europe Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey.
