The regional conference „Schools as a driving force for democracy” organised as part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe action "Quality education for all", will be held on 5 and 6 March 2024, starting from 09:30 in Herceg Novi.

The opening remarks will be given by:

  • Anđela Jakšić- Stojanović, Minister of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro
  • Lejla Dervišagić, Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Podgorica
  • Vesna Atanasova, Head of Unit, Division of Formal and Non-Formal Education, Council of Europe.

The aim of the conference is to gather educators from Bosnia and Hercegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro to discuss the comprehensive implementation of the Council of Europe Reference Framework for Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) in member states. Speakers and participants will explore strategies to foster an environment of transparency and integrity at schools, as well as share regional experiences in applying relevant practices at schools, integrating the RFCDC principles in national curricula, and promoting awareness of environmental issues. Further focus will be on amplifying learners' voices and facilitating inclusive dialogue among participants.

The conference begins on 5 March 2024 at 09:30 at the Lazure hotel in Herceg Novi and it is open to media. Simultaneous English/Montenegrin interpretation will be provided.

The "Quality education for all" action is a part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
