Empowering media pluralism: Key media actors in Serbia chart a course for the study of information disorder

Through the support of the European Union and the Council of Europe, the key media actors in Serbia discussed and provided inputs to the future research on information disorder, as a part of their efforts to to enhance information pluralism, counter disinformation, and safeguard the principles of freedom of expression.

By bringing together diverse stakeholders, media professionals led by two largests journalists associations (Journalists’ Association of Serbia - JAS and Independent Journalists Association of Serbia - IJAS), regulatory authority, and investigative journalists, the workshop sought to foster a collaborative and holistic approach to address the multifaceted challenges posed by information disorder.

The outcome of the hybrid workshop is a set of recommendations that will serve as a basis for a study of disinformation, mis-information and mal-information in Serbia, expected to inform policies and initiatives that will strengthen Serbia's media landscape, promoting a healthier information ecosystem.

The workshop was organised under the action “Protecting freedom of expression and of the media (PROFREX) in Serbia”, that is part of the joint European Union and the Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
