Building a safer environment for media professionals

Keeping journalists safe is key to a free press! Therefore, a group of thirty journalists from various media outlets gathered in Pristina for a specialised training focused on their safety.

Thanks to expert insights, including those from the European Court of Human Rights, these media professionals are now better equipped to face the challenges of the field head-on.

The training provided practical guidance on navigating threats and challenges faced by journalists today. Through expert-led sessions, including an in-depth look at the European Court of Human Rights’ standards and the Council's recommendations, participants learned about protecting themselves and their sources, both offline and online.

The European Union and the Council of Europe continue to support media professionals, enabling them to perform their vital work in informing the public, free from undue pressures or fear.

This event was organised in the framework of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye” and its action on “Protecting freedom of expression and of the media (PRO-FREX)” in co-operation with the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, implemented by the Council of Europe Division for Co-operation on Freedom of Expression.
