14 initial ROMACTED team visits organised to the partner cities and municipalities in Serbia

During June and July, the ROMACTED team, in cooperation with the Support Organisation BFPE for a responsible society, organised meetings with officials and mayors of 14 cities and municipalities in Serbia who expressed interest and were invited to participate in the implementation of the second phase of the ROMACTED Programme. The purpose of the visits was to present the ROMACTED Programme, the results achieved in the first phase, as well as the methodology and objectives envisioned for the second phase. Visits were organized in Aleksinac, Apatin, Bac, Kragujevac, Krusevac, Kostolac, Lebane, Nis, Pirot, Prokuplje, Subotica, Vrnjacka Banja, Zajecar and Zvezdara.

All representatives of the local self-governments expressed their interest in being actively involved in the Programme and acknowledged the presented methodology. The visits were preceded by a letter of support to the program, signed by the Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, emphasizing the importance of the ROMACTED Programme for improving the position of the Roma community, but also for building the capacity of the local self-governments.

In the forthcoming period, each local self-government will delegate a contact person and his/her replacement who will monitor the program implementation process on behalf of the municipality/city and actively cooperate with the facilitators and the ROMACTED team.

Cooperation on the ROMACTED Programme will be formalised in Belgrade in September, on the occasion of the official launch of the program and the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the mayors, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade and the Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue.
