From August to October 2017, the city of Moret-sur-Loing transformed into a real open-air museum dedicated to its emblematic painter: Alfred Sisley. Inspired by the landscapes of Moret-sur-Loing, the artist lived in the city for 20 years. The open-air museum is much more than a travel around the city, it is a real artistic walk that invites the visitor to experience a 19th century atmosphere. There are two objectives: cultural and touristic. The exhibition displays 7 works on the main monuments of the city painted by Alfred Sisley and the visitor can discover the paintings as he discovers the real monuments. This exhibition demonstrates that the historical sites painted by Sisley are practically unaffected by modern life.
The exhibition aims at valorising a shared European culture and to shed light on Sisley’s work, which is considered as a pillar of the city cultural heritage. The open-air museum is organised in the frame of an “Alfred Sisley European Route”.
