Quality Education for All – 40 schools to work on democratic school culture selected in Serbia

Following a public call published by the Serbian Ministry of Education in September, a selection committee evaluated and selected 40 schools from Serbia to take part in the Action Quality Education for All (Quality ED – Serbia).

The committee, comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia and the Council of Europe, had the difficult task to handpick the best 40 schools from more than a hundred excellent applications.

To be selected, the schools needed to meet a set of established criteria while having in mind the project aims and expected results. Primarily, the schools had to demonstrate their motivation and readiness to improve their democratic environment, to fully promote the concept of democratic school culture and closely work with students, parents and their local communities. The schools are located in all parts of Serbia and have from 16 to 1600 students!

Mentors from 20 pilot schools who were trained as part of the Fostering a Democratic School Culture project in phase I of the Horizontal Facility, will guide and support these new schools through tailor-made methodologies we have developed whilst at the same time continuing with activities in their own schools.
