Within the efforts to improve the functioning of anti-discrimination mechanisms and their accessibility to vulnerable groups, in line with European standards, key results and activities have been accomplished in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Council of Ministers adopted the LGBTI Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2021 – 2024 which aims to improve the human rights and freedoms of LGBTI persons. This is the first Action Plan of this kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it was developed with the support of the European Union and Council of Europe.
Furthermore, a seminar with prison staff from different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina was organised with the support of the Horizontal Facility II programme. The participants had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and capacities regarding the treatment of LGBTI persons with an additional focus on transgender persons.
The need to pay special attention to the treatment of LGBTI prisoners in correctional institutions was also recognised in the Special report on the rights of LGBT persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was published by the Institution of Ombudsman for Human Rights of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016.
