Ethical counselling visits to the basic courts in Montenegro

Three counselling visits of the members of the Ethical committee of the Judicial Council to the Basic Courts in Nikšić, Basic Court in Berane and Basic Court in Bar were organised in January, March and April 2019, respectively.

Besides presentation of the work of the Ethical committee and role of its members, the counselling visits provided platform for discussions on implementation of the Code of Ethics and presentation of adopted guidelines for its implementation.

During the visits, the judges shared with the members of the Ethical committee and their colleagues the ethical dilemmas they face with in their work and received advice on the best ethical reactions.

The concept and method of the ethical counselling visits are welcomed by the judges who acknowledged many benefits from the dialogue with the members of the Ethical committee which counselling role in the judicial system is being strengthened.

The counselling visits were organised within the Action “Accountability of the Judicial System”, jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, as a part of the Horizontal Facility programme.
