Overall objective:

  • to develop a programme on human rights education tailored for sports practitioners working in educational institutions, emphasising the key role of sport in promoting human rights.

 

Specific objectives:

  • to raise awareness on sport as a human right and on its role in promoting human rights involving sports practitioners working in education institutions and policy developers.
  • to strengthen the capacity of sports professionals working in education institutions to provide human rights education through sports taking into consideration the needs of minority groups including refugees and migrants.
  • to reinforce the capacity of civil society organisations working in the sports sector so that they are better equipped to advocate for sport as a human right.

 

Outputs/expected results:

  • An online training module on providing human rights education tailored for physical education teachers, sports coaches and volunteers will be developed.
  • Physical education teachers, sports coaches and volunteers will be trained to provide human rights education in the pilot programme
  • Awareness raising materials such as videos and leaflets will be produced to sensitise civil society and present sport as a human right and as a tool to promote human rights.
  • Tools and guidelines on advocating to national governments and international organisations for human rights in and through sport will be developed.
  • An online knowledge hub to disseminate the results of the project and to provide support to individuals and organisations will be made available.

Online course

Introducing learners to key concepts on human rights education through sports.
The course content is divided into two modules:

  1. Human Rights in and through Sport, 
  2. Putting Human Rights Theory into Sports Practice.

The course is currently available in three languages:

English (Module I and Module II),
Portuguese (Module I and Module II),
Spanish (Module I and Module II).
