As part of the global campaign of 16 days of activism to end violence against women, an international webinar on “Administrative data collection and analysis on violence against women and domestic violence” will be held on 30 November 2020 as a part of the European Union and Council of Europe’s joint action to help tackle violence against women and domestic violence in Turkey.

The webinar – organised in co-operation with Turkey’s Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Interior – aims to increase awareness and understanding of the need to collect better data on violence against women in line with European standards and good practices.

The webinar will consider the following questions:

  • How can better data improve the protection of women victims of violence?
  • What kind of data is needed in relation to violence against women?
  • What benefits does the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention bring in terms of data collection?
  • How should we balance data collection and personal data protection?

These questions will be tackled by key national officials and international experts in three thematic panel discussions.

The event is organised as part of the action entitled “Fostering a comprehensive institutional response to violence against women and domestic violence in Turkey”, implemented under the European Union and Council of Europe’s joint “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.

The webinar will begin at 10:30 and is fully open to the media. Interested journalists should register via e-mail to [email protected] by no later than 15:00 on 29 November.

The webinar will be held using the KUDO video-conference platform. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
