Students from the region discuss human rights and values during the first Democratic School online chat room

In the framework of the joint European Union/Council of Europe actions “Quality education for all”, 31 students from secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia met online on 10 December 2020 to discuss opportunities and challenges for human rights and values brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We all must show solidarity and help each other in order to overcome the current crisis”, concluded the students who had the opportunity to exchange opinions on several important topics including fake news, vaccination and lockdown measures. They also discussed the right to a quality education and how democracy can be used to agree on solutions that will benefit all.

The Democratic School Chat Rooms event is a series of online discussions including over 120 students from 61 secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia to discuss what a democratic school culture represents for them and learn how they can use the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture to meet this goal. The next Democratic School chat room will be held on 14 December and will focus on challenges and solutions in an online learning environment.

The action “Quality education for all” is implemented under the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
