A multi-stakeholder meeting to discuss barriers to access to justice for women and propose relevant solutions will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ordu from 10.15 to 16.30 on Wednesday 18 May 2022, as part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint action on “Fostering women’s access to justice in Turkey” .
The following speakers will give introductory remarks:
- Sibel Suiçmez, Vice Chair, The Union of Turkish Bar Associations
- Cristian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara
- Prof. Kadriye Bakirci, Hacettepe University, Faculty of Law
Representatives of the Union of Bar Associations of Turkey, the Ordu Bar Association, Ordu University, public agencies and civil society organisations will also speak during the meeting.
The meeting will offer a platform for discussion among key stakeholders on how to build local strategies and partnerships to support women’s access to justice and relevant services, including legal aid and assistance, especially for women who are victims or survivors of violence and those who come from rural communities.
This is the first in a series of meetings which will take place in the provinces of Diyarbakır, Muğla and Nevşehir up until October 2022 to raise awareness of barriers to access to justice for women and to generate local initiatives to support their access to legal aid and assistance.
The meetings are being organised as part of the initiative under European Union/Council of Europe joint programme entitled “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022” and its action “Fostering women’s access to justice in Turkey”.
The introductory speeches at the meeting will be open to the media. Interpretation in English/Turkish will be provided.
