Marking Human Rights Day in schools in Serbia

This year, the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia marked Human Rights Day by sending a letter to all elementary and secondary schools highlighting the importance of human rights education and competences for democratic culture.

The letter specifically mentions the work being done in co-operation with the Council of Europe and, more precisely, the efforts that are being made within the joint European Union/Council of Europe Quality education for all action. A set of materials, produced within the previous Horizontal Facility action was also sent to all schools; amongst others, students’ video accounts of the effects of human rights and democratic citizenship education based on Reference framework of competences for democratic culture and the publication How to achieve a democratic culture in schools, which includes numerous examples of best practices from the schools.

The action on Quality education for all is implemented under the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
