HELP online course on procedural safeguards and victims' rights in criminal proceedings launched in Montenegro

With the aim to align the national legal practices with the relevant European Union Directives and case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in the area of procedural safeguards in criminal proceedings, the action "Improved procedural safeguards in judicial proceedings in Montenegro" has launched the online course for legal professionals in Montenegro.

This interactive course developed by the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) Secretariat includes various practical exercises, combining both the fundamental procedural rights of accused and suspected persons in criminal proceedings (focusing on EU Directive topics, notably the presumption of innocence) and the rights of victims of crime (emphasis on access to justice).

The course will be attended by the representatives of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, Ministry of Justice and Ombudsperson’s Institution. Over the period of three months, with tutor’s assistance, the participants will broaden their knowledge about relevant international standards safeguarding the procedural rights. The participants who successfully complete the course will receive HELP certificates issued by the Council of Europe.

The action "Improved procedural safeguards in judicial proceedings in Montenegro" is a part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
