Developing Online Video Game's Scenarios to Enhance Digital Citizenship

Teachers, education experts and game developers joined forces in Kızılcahamam to design a web-based video game that teaches young people the principles of Digital Citizenship (DCE).

Organised in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, the workshop brought together 25 participants – including officials from the Ministry’s General Directorate of Basic Education and General Directorate of Innovation and Educational Technologies, teachers, game development experts, an academic, and representatives of the Council of Europe. During the 3-day workshop, participants worked intensively to develop the framework and scenarios for ten levels of the game, each linked to a specific area of Digital Citizenship Education. They discussed how to embed educational content in a fun and engaging storyline, design quests, and ensure that each scenario supported the overall learning goals. The group focused on making the scenarios coherent, educationally effective and creatively designed to keep students engaged. By the end of the workshop, participants had successfully developed and agreed on the overall narrative and ten game level scenarios. They also set out a clear roadmap and detailed development plan to guide the game company that will bring the project to life.
