Anti-Discrimination Week 2026 kicks off in Albania, promoting equality, dignity and inclusion for all

Under the motto “Equality, Dignity and Inclusion for All”, the Anti-Discrimination Week 2026 will take place across Albania from 9 to 16 February 2026, featuring a series of awareness-raising and capacity-building activities.

The Anti-Discrimination Week Held annually in February is an initiative of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination, implemented with the support of the EU and Council of Europe action “Advancing the Protection from Discrimination in Albania”. It aims to promote equality, inclusion and stronger institutional responses to hate-speech and discrimination, in line with European standards, and Council of Europe recommendations.

  • Strengthening capacities to address hate crimes at the Police Academy

Capacity building constitutes a central component of the Anti-Discrimination Week. A series of training sessions on hate crimes will be held over 400 students across all the three academic years of the Police Academy of Tirana. The training sessions will focus on identification, investigation and prevention of hate crimes, supporting victims and ensuring equal treatment and non-discriminatory policing.

  • Promoting equality in employment and access to public services in Shkodër

On 11 February 2026, an public activity will be held at the “Hamdi Bushati” Vocational School in Shkodër, focusing on equality in employment and access to public services. The event will raise awareness among students and educators about equal opportunities, non-discrimination in the workplace, and inclusive professional environments.

  • Strong institutions for a society free from discrimination in Fier

On 12 February 2026, a public event will take place in Fier, at the Youth Centre “Epoka e Re”, on the role of public institutions, independent bodies and civil society in preventing discrimination and ensuring effective protection mechanisms.

  • Raising awareness on anti-discrimination protection mechanisms in Pogradec

On 13 February 2026, activities will continue in Pogradec at the Municipal Multifunctional Centre near the Puppet Theatre, informing citizens about the mandate and activities of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination and discussing protection mechanisms and complaint procedures under the “Law on Protection from Discrimination”.

The Anti-Discrimination Week 2026, brings together public institutions, civil society, professionals and local communities, reaffirming a shared commitment to equality, dignity and inclusion for all. Anti-discrimination Week is organised in co-operation with the Commissioner for Protection against Discrimination, and supported by EU and Council of Europe joint programme “Horizontal Facility III”

Horizontal Facility III

The joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye” (Horizontal Facility III) is a co-operation initiative, running from 2023 until 2026. The programme covers actions in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Türkiye. It enables the Beneficiaries to meet their reform agendas in the fields of human rights, rule of law and democracy and to comply with European
standards, which is also a priority for the EU enlargement process. 

The envelope of this facility amounts to ca. 41 million EUR (85% funded by the EU, 15% by the CoE).
