Albanian and Serbian journalists strengthen trauma-informed and gender-sensitive journalism

Media actors and professionals, conveyed in a workshop in Bogë/Boga on trauma-informed journalism, with a focus on gender and online threats and harassment. Journalists from Albanian and Serbian communities had the opportunity to strengthen their professional skills for reporting in high-pressure environments, while addressing the safety and wellbeing of media professionals.

This activity builds on a previous cross-community journalism workshop organised in 2024 in Brezovica, focusing on enhancing professional co-operation and reporting on sensitive issues. Sessions addressed the effects of trauma on individuals and local communities and practical coping and resilience strategies for journalists facing harassment in their job. Participants also engaged in practical group work, identifying key challenges and developing solutions aimed at strengthening individual resilience and newsroom support mechanisms.

The programme included important discussions on safety challenges faced by women journalists, with a particular emphasis on gender-based online harassment. Practical exercises encouraged peer exchange and collective reflection on how to better recognise risks and respond to threats in a professional and ethical manner.

This event was jointly organised by the Division for Co-operation on Freedom of Expression, EU and Council of Europe action "Protecting freedom of expression and of the media" (PRO-FREX) and the Council of Europe Policy Planning and Confidence Building Measures Division in co-ordination with the Association of Journalists of Kosovo.
