Back MEDIA ADVISORY: Regional conference on fighting discrimination in education

On 16-17 May, the Council of Europe and European Union are holding a regional conference to examine how to combat discrimination in education, the best ways to support the integration of migrant children and how to build resilience to radicalisation through education, in Bečići, Montenegro.

Keynote speakers will include: Mubera Kurpejovic, General Director, Ministry of Education; Angela Longo, Head of Operations, Council of Europe Programme Office in Podgorica; Romain Boitard, Task Manager for education, Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro; and Vesna Atanasova, Programme Manager, Council of Europe`s Education Department.

The aim of the conference “Fighting discrimination in the education system” is to share good practices and experiences on ways to effectively address discrimination in education and to highlight the benefits of promoting approaches that support inclusive education and democratic school culture. Participants include teachers, students, representatives of the Ministries of Education and international experts. The event will gather education professionals and policy makers from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo*.

The conference will start at 9:00 am on Wednesday, 16 May 2018, at the Splendid hotel in Bečići. Language regime: English-Montenegrin-Albanian with simultaneous interpretation. The event is fully open to the media. Press statements will be given upon request.

The conference is organised by the project “Fostering a democratic culture” in partnership with the Montenegrin Ministry of Education, under the EU-Council of Europe Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans programme. The Horizontal Facility is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
