At its fourth meeting, the Steering Committee of the action “Strengthening anti - trafficking action in North Macedonia” gathered in Skopje key partners and beneficiaries to take stock of the achieved progress during implementation of the action and discussed the new priorities for 2025.
The meeting was opened by Oleg Soldatov, the Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje. “We are looking forward to continuing our co-operation with the new composition of the Commission on combating trafficking and illegal migration and the new National Coordinator. Their tasks with respect to designing strategies, coordinating anti-trafficking activities, data collection and reporting are indispensable for creating synergies across institutions and other anti-trafficking actors”, reiterated Soldatov in his remarks.
The action’s Steering Committee provided a forum for discussion among the participants, representing the anti-trafficking institutions, such as the police, the lined ministries, the Academy for judges and prosecutors, and civil society organisations. They examined the progress in the fulfilment of the rights of trafficking victims and to set priorities for preventing and combating this heinous crime.
Among other highlighted implemented initiatives for 2024 were the theatrical and radio play “Vicious circle” within the framework of the awareness raising initiative of the grantee Radio Pela, the impact of digital technology on human trafficking, facilitated access to free legal aid and monetary compensation for trafficking victims. The Steering Committee endorsed the action’s plan for implementation of the activities in January-June 2025, focusing on multi-disciplinary capacity building of anti-trafficking stakeholders. It emphasised the needs for awareness raising initiatives about the risks of trafficking and for ensuring access to rights of trafficking victims.
