Back University students in Türkiye trained on gender-sensitive legal practices

The joint European Union/Council of Europe action “Fostering women's access to justice in Türkiye” launched the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) course on "Access to justice for women" to run between 23 February- 22 April 2024. It aimed to increase knowledge and skills of future legal professionals on supporting women’s access to justice in line with European standards.  

A total of 294 (238 women and 56 men) students were certified One of the participants said: “The course showed me what I could do to ensure women's access to justice regardless of my position when I start my career, increased my sensitivity, highlighted the importance of not remaining indifferent to injustices, stripped me of biases, and, in short, further enlightened me". Another participant declared: “I will act more consciously and persistently to ensure gender equality in the places where I will work”. The post-evaluation survey showed positive developments in the skillset of the students, which is promising for the future generation of lawyers.

The action “Fostering women's access to justice in Türkiye” is part of the European Union and Council of Europe’s joint programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye". The action contributes to enhancing accessibility and quality of legal aid services for women and supporting key stakeholders, including civil society, as well as to increase legal awareness and literacy among women in Türkiye.
