Successful finalisation of the human rights legal course for law students in Tirana and Durrës

Over 500 Albanian students have successfully completed the human rights course on application of the European Convention on Human Rights. The course was implemented during the second semester of Bachelor and Master Programme students in Tirana and Durrës law faculties (in March-April 2019).

The specific focus was given to the case studies in relation to the right to a fair trial, the right to protection of property and protection of gender equality. The knowledge and skills of students were enhanced in relation to application of the European Court of Human Rights standards and case law at the national level. The students were coached by selected law professors and practicing attorneys in close co-operation with three Albanian civil society organisations (the Center for Legal Civic Initiatives, Balkan Youth Link Albania and the Institute for Political Studies).

A memorandum of understanding was signed with the University of Tirana and “Aleksandër Moisiu” University” in Durrës to integrate the newly developed courses in the educational programs of both universities.

The Action “Supporting effective domestic remedies and facilitating the execution of the European Court of Human Right judgments” is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe Horizontal Facility programme and implemented by the Council of Europe.
