Advisers and judges of constitutional courts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia participated at the regional working meeting to exchange experience and knowledge on the application of relevant human rights standards in their daily work.
As the ultimate protector of human rights at the national level, the Constitutional court plays a crucial role not only in safeguarding individuals' rights but also in ensuring legal certainty and adherence to standards of the rule of law. The regional working meeting represents the part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency in the work of the constitutional courts.
The two-day event was designed as an interactive workshop and it provided the platform for exchange on a very specific issues related to, inter alia, respect for the right to property, the right to liberty and security, the rights of victims in criminal proceedings and enforcement of the constitutional court´s decisions. Peer-to-peer exchanges offer the most productive approach, facilitating concrete solutions for enhancing the application of human rights standards in their daily work.
The event was organised within the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”, as the result of co-operation of the actions "Strengthening accountability of the judicial system and enhancing protection of victims’ rights in Montenegro”, “Strengthening human rights protection in Serbia” and “Support to a coherent national implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and facilitating execution of ECtHR judgments in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, funded by the Council of Europe Action Plan for BiH 2022-2025.
