Back Policy round table on quality education held in Sarajevo

Policy round table on quality education held in Sarajevo

The second Policy Round table organised within the Action “Quality education in multi-ethnic societies” held on 24 April in Sarajevo gathered 35 representatives of relevant ministries of education and education institutions on State, Entity, Cantonal and Brčko levels, as well as representatives of pilot schools, civil society organisations, universities, local and international experts on education, international organisations, and other relevant stakeholders.

The discussions focused on the draft Policy Roadmap and recommendations to improve the quality of education in Bosnia and Herzegovina based on European standards. The Policy Roadmap is based on an assessment study on ethnic segregation and discrimination and its impact on quality education in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as findings from discussions with focus groups. The second part of the event was dedicated to how to put quality education into practice. “We cannot predict what the future labour market will look like, but what we can do is to promote a quality education system based on competencies for democratic culture”, stated one participant.

The event was the final activity organised within the Action “Quality education in multi-ethnic societies”, part of the Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.

The overall objective of the Action is to improve the quality of education in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the formal education system through applying anti-discriminatory approaches in line with Council of Europe standards and practices.
