Team of trainers for police special forces, established and trained under the joint European Union and Council of Europe action “Further enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro”, are extending their action. The team was formed to provide continuous in-service trainings to their peers and therefore ensure sustainability of activities.

Recognising advantages and benefits of in-service trainings for special forces, the Ministry of Interior, Police Administration and Police Academy organised the first in a series of cascade trainings that will also target intervention units of all Montenegrin security centres, with support of the action.

Group of 16 intervention units’ members from various security centres (Podgorica, Niksic, Berane and Pljevlja) on 17 – 20 March underwent intensive trainings with real life scenarios testing and enhancing their mental tactical skills, teaching them technics of stress management under extreme conditions. Mastering these skills ensures better self-control leading to increased professionalism, reduced incidents of excessive use of force and therefore preventing ill-treatment.

With Police Administration incorporating training programs developed under the action in their annual plan, financial support by the Ministry of Interior and using the premises of Police Academy, institutions of Montenegro are showing the commitment with gradually taking over the activities initiated under the action “Further enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro”. This action is a part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022", implemented by the Council of Europe.
