What is the mentoring programme?

Mentoring is a methodology aiming to empower legal professionals, judges, and prosecutors, to strengthen women’s access to justice. Through peer-to-peer learning, mentees explore innovative approaches and address the gender-based inequalities they encounter in their practice. The Mentoring Programme is designed to enhance the continuous learning of justice sector practitioners, specifically judges and prosecutors. By fostering open dialogue and promoting human rights approaches, the mentoring programmes takes a different approach from that used in formal teaching and establishes a connection between theories about access to justice, international human rights law and the daily practice of the practitioners. The mentoring programme is currently being implemented in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.

The influence of harmful gender stereotypes and bias in the exercise of legal professions.

Women face many obstacles in accessing justice, despite formal commitments in the Eastern Partnership region, as in most Council of Europe member states. These barriers rarely reflect problems with the content of laws and policies formally upheld but rather from procedures and practices in implementing them.

The mentoring programme has been implemented in the Eastern Partnership Regions since 2019 under the EU and Council of Europe joint programme Partnership for Good Governance. You can access the PGG Mentoring Programme website here

Türkiye'de Roman Kadınlar Haklarını Aramaları için Güçlendiriliyor

Türkiye genelinde 130 Roman kadın, 6-29 Kasım tarihleri arasında düzenlenen eğitimler sayesinde, haklarını talep etme  ve temel destek hizmetlerine erişim konularında bilgilerini artırdı ve özgüvenlerini güçlendirdi. Adalete erişimin önündeki engelleri ortadan kaldırmayı ve hukuk sistemine olan güveni artırmayı amaçlayan bu eğitimler, barolar ve belediyelerle iş birliği içinde, Türkiye genelinde sekiz şehirde (Gaziantep, Edirne, İstanbul, İzmir, Manisa, Samsun, Tekirdağ ve Zonguldak) gerçekleştirildi.

Eğitimlerde, çeşitli ayrımcılık türlerine maruz kalan Roman kadınlara, özellikle de ev  içi şiddet mağdurlarına odaklanıldı. Bir eğitmen, birçok katılımcının başlangıçta koruma mekanizmalarına güvenmedikleri için hukuki yollara başvurma konusunda isteksiz olduklarını ifade ettiklerini belirtti. Eğitimler, kadın hakları ve adalet sistemi konusunda farkındalık yaratarak katılımcıların son derece önemli bilgiler ve yetkinlik kazanmalarını sağladı. Bir eğitmen, bu deneyimi “ufuk açıcı bir etkinlik” olarak tanımlayarak katılımcılar üzerindeki dönüştürücü etkisini vurgulamıştır.

Eğitmen olarak görev alan avukatlar, eğitimlere başlamadan önce, benzer faaliyetlerdeki en iyi uygulamaları içeren ve Sıfır Ayrımcılık Derneği'nin Roman toplumuyla etkili iletişim konusunda tavsiyelerde bulunduğu bir eğitim programına katıldı. Dernek yetkilileri ayrıca bu eğitimde belirli hukuki zorlukların ele alınmasına ışık tutarak, eğitmenlerin verimli bir etkileşim için gerekli becerileri ve duyarlılığı edinmesine yardımcı oldu.

Eğitimlerde elde edilen başarılar, Türkiye'de kadınların güçlendirilmesine yönelik çabaların sürdürülmesinin önünü açmıştır. Bir eğitmen, baroların ve belediyelerin benzer eğitimler düzenlemeye devam etmeyi planladıklarını bildirerek projenin uzun vadeli etkisinin ve sürdürülebilirliğinin sağlanacağını ifade etmiştir.

Etkinlik, Avrupa Birliği/Avrupa Konseyi ortak projesi “Türkiye’de Kadınların Adalete Erişiminin Desteklenmesi” ve Avrupa Birliği/Avrupa Konseyi ROMACTED II Bölgesel Programı ortak programı” tarafından düzenlenmiştir.
