The training for use of Case Management System, recently developed within the Action against economic crime in Montenegro, was organised on 29 November 2021, for the heads of department of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Montenegro. The training increased capacities of the participants to process and disseminate financial intelligence data. The participants were trained to use the system for opening and processing cases, sharing the information with different sectors within FIU and preparing for external dissemination towards other relevant authorities.

The Case Management System has significantly reduced the time needed to collect the data on the investigated person or entity from different databases, including information on police records, criminal records, border crossings, company ownership. The collection of all these data previously would take the days of work and involve large number of people, which could compromise confidentiality of the investigation and jeopardize its outcome, whereas now this information can be collected in a couple of minutes. One of the key aspects of the system is a feature which enables quick filtering of financial transactions from bank statements, based on a variety of parameters. This feature is facilitating analytical processing and greatly contributes to the accuracy of conducted analyses.

The heads of departments will in the following two weeks train the staff of FIU on use of this analytical tool, processing and presentation of obtained information, based on the real cases that FIU is analysing.

The training was organised and the Case Management System was developed within the Action against economic crime in Montenegro, a part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
