Enhancing legal practices in line with European values and promoting an efficient justice across Western Balkans Beneficiaries is a main priority of respective actions in the field of strengthening justice. Efforts are directed at working closely with justice governing institutions, courts and local actors to implement reforms that increase the quality and access to justice systems. These efforts underline a collective commitment of the beneficiaries in the region to fostering equal and more effective legal systems for the benefit of the people of the Western Balkans.
In Albania, the High Inspector of Justice was capacitated with the methodology for preparing and conducting classic thematic inspection missions, based on best European standards and practices. This activity follows previous training seminars on European standards on judicial inspection aiming to enhance the capacities of Albanian HIJ Inspectors and Assistant Inspectors.
In North Macedonia 42 attorneys successfully completed the online HELP course on “Ethics for judges, prosecutors and lawyers.” The course covers in an interactive way the key concepts, the International and European framework, and the relevant case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and of the Court of Justice of the European Union. In addition, the first cascade training for lawyers on “Provision of Free Legal Aid in North Macedonia” were conducted in co-operation with the Bar Association of North Macedonia.
An important visit of the winners of a Moot Court competition, was organised to the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights. During their visit, students discussed case-law relevant to Albania and other member states and got acquainted with the HELP online courses designed to enhance legal professionals' knowledge and skills.
