What is a Young European Ambassador?

The programme Young European Ambassadors (YEA) is an initiative of the European Union, to create and develop a network for sharing skills, ideas and promote European values and opportunities among Youth. In this context their role in supporting the fight against hate speech and developing counter-narratives in line with European values and standards is fundamental in the process of advancing equality and diversity in the Western Balkan and Eastern Partnership regions.

As part of the Horizontal Facility III programme, the work with the YEAs from the Western Balkans focuses on developing counter-narratives to hate speech. Supporting their role in combating hate speech is essential for promoting equality and diversity in line with European values and standards.

“‘Block the Hatred; Share the Love!”: Working with European youth to bring forward equality and diversity in the Western Balkans

The second group of the Young European Ambassadors (EYA) of the European Union just joined and will be engaged in the EU and Council of Europe campaign “Block the Hatred; Share the Love” as promoters of European values in the region. The three days induction training conducted from 30 November to 2 December, gathered 12 EYA young representatives who discussed and learned more about the dangers of hate speech and how to promote equality and diversity. The group of young boys and girls will now function as the “’No Hate’ European Young Ambassadors” , bringing this group of Ambassadors who supports the campaign to 24 representatives.

What ‘No-Hate YEA-s; will do?
They are joining the team working on ‘Promoting diversity and equality in the Western Balkans’, to bring forward alternative narratives to hate speech in the region, through the campaign “Block the Hatred; Share the Love!. The EYA-s have a special role: to bring closer to the campaign youngsters from the region and discuss with them about respect, diversity, equality, fostering regional reconciliation.

We wish good luck to the new 12 YEA-s as we look forward to see and support their actions starting with the approaching Human Rights Day 2021. Follow our campaign channels (Website, Facebook; Twitter, and Instagram)  as well as WeBalkans channels (Website; Facebook; Twitter and Instagram) to hear and see more on this!
