A study visit to Copenhagen, Denmark for representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights Defender’s Office of the Republic of Armenia and "Social justice" NGO took place on 27-30 June 2017. The Armenian delegation visited the headquarters of the Danish Prison and Probation Service, two penitentiary institutions (Horserød Prison and Herstedvester Prison), the Forensic Psychiatric Clinic Sct. Hans, the Training Centre of the Prison and Probation Service and Probation Office KiF Glostrup.
The aim of the visit was to acquire first-hand knowledge about the legal and institutional framework of Danish prison healthcare services, capacity building activities for medical and non-medical staff working in prisons, as well as material conditions of prison infirmaries. The acquired knowledge will be used for amending the legislative drafts aimed at reforming the prison health system and modernizing medical services, as well as for improving the health care services provided in the penitentiary institutions of Armenia.
The study visit was organised within the Project on “Strengthening healthcare and human rights protection in prisons in Armenia”, funded under the Partnership of the European Union and the Council of Europe for Good Governance in the Eastern Partnership Countries.
