The Council of Europe Office in Georgia and European Union Delegation are assisting the Georgian government in developing the action plan on quality control of healthcare services in prisons.

During the 2-day workshop, held on 23-24 March 2017 the Council of Europe experts and the representatives from the Ministry of Corrections of Georgia (MoC) had the possibility to discuss and identify the problems and possible solutions as well as to define the aims, priority areas, objectives, activities, risks, mitigating factors, responsible persons and timeline of the work plan on introducing quality assurance of the health care services in prisons. The meeting also served as a first phase for elaborating the guiding document for quality control methods and mechanisms.

The developed action plan is expected to be used for monitoring and guarantying the quality control and will contribute to the improvement of the healthcare services in the prisons. After approval the work plan will be the first document establishing quality control mechanisms and forms and will be used as a basis for provision of quality services in the health care establishments in the prisons.

The Council of Europe and European Union will continue assisting the Ministry of Corrections and Probation of Georgia (MoC) in introducing the quality control of the healthcare services in prisons.

The activity has been organised within the framework of the CoE/EU Eastern Partnership Programmatic Cooperation Framework Project “Human Rights and Healthcare in prisons and Other Closed Institutions in Georgia II”.
