Back Understanding of the European non-discrimination Standards

Understanding of the European non-discrimination Standards

On 23-24 June 2016, the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the Chief Prosecutor’s Office in Georgia, organised a training on anti-discrimination standards for  middle-level management prosecutors from all the regions of Georgia.

Giving the right qualification to the discrimination complaints still remains an issue in Georgia. The Prosecutor’s office has now amended its internal prosecutorial guidelines based on the Council of Europe recommendations on investigating hate crimes. The prosecutors have already been informed about these new guiding principles. This training served to improve middle-level managers’ knowledge on European non-discrimination standards and ways of properly investigating and giving the right qualification to the facts of discrimination.

24 manager prosecutors are now better aware of European non-discrimination standards and are able to actively use internal prosecutorial guidelines on investigating hate crimes in their national practice.

The training took place under the Project "Application of the European Convention of Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European Standards", which is funded through the EU-CoE Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
