Training on advancing legal writing and research skills

On 2-3 June 2017, Council of Europe (CoE) and EU organised a two-days training for the staff of analytical department of the Supreme Court of Georgia, High Council of Justice, High School of Justice, Tbilisi City Court  and Tbilisi Appellate l Court on the Legal Research and Legal Analysis.

The purpose of the training was to increase legal writing and research skills of the analytical units of court system. Participants were informed on modern legal writing techniques, methods of legal analysis and legal research. At the same time the participants learned about important legal aspects, existing structural violations identified in the case-law of the European Court on Human Rights (ECtHR) against Georgia.

As a result of the training up to 30 participants got acquainted with the proceedings before the ECtHR, main legal databases, linguistic features of legal documents, methods of constructing a legal text and basic orthographic-stylistic rules.

The event was organised in the framework of the European Union – Council of Europe joint project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European standards”, being implemented under the EU-CoE Partnership for Good Governance.
