Training for Georgian Supreme Court staff on reasoning requirements under European Convention on Human Rights

On 18-19 March, 2017 Council of Europe, within the EU funded project, organised two-day training sessions for Supreme Court staff on Reasoning Requirements under European Convention on Human Rights.

The aim of the training was to increase the awareness of judge assistants of the Supreme Court of Georgia on fair trial standards of the European Convention on Human Rights with particular emphasis on reasoning requirements of court decisions on application of preventive measures and final judgments.

As a result of the training session participants got acquainted with the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights as regards of reasoning requirements for decisions on the use of the statements of absent witnesses, on the (non-) examination of defense witnesses, as well as for final judgments of courts.  Moreover, the participants had possibility to learn on substantiation requirements of decisions on pre-trial detention. 

The Training took place under the EU/CoE Joint Project "Application of the European Convention of Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European Standards", which is funded through the Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
