At the invitation of the Republican Council of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Council of Europe good governance tools that might be applied in Belarus were presented to the Council for Cooperation of Local Self-Government Bodies.
The sitting took place 28 April, in Minsk with all regional governors attending this important strategic event. The Council of Europe presented the areas in which a constructive dialogue can lead to development of sustainable cooperation with Belarus in the area of good governance at local level and strengthening of local self-governance.
The potential support of the Council of Europe in the local governance sector was also discussed at a previous meeting with the leadership of the Academy of Public Administration by the Office of the President of Belarus held on 27 April 2017, in Minsk, Belarus. As a result of discussions, some potential activities were identified: organisation of possible trainings/courses on Human Resource Management, Strategic municipal planning and other related topics for the local authorities from Belarus; implementation of Inter-Municipal Co-operation concept in Belarus and provision of assistance in streamlining the Belarus civil service legislation.
