Back Transparency in political funding in Ukraine

Transparency in political funding in Ukraine

The Venice Commission adopted a  Joint Opinion with the OSCE Office For Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) on the draft amendments to some legislative acts concerning prevention and fight against political corruption of Ukraine (23-24 October 2015).

Overall, OSCE/ODIHR and the Venice Commission welcomed the draft amendments, which largely improve the existing legal framework on the financing of political party activities and election campaigns, including the financing of individual candidates. The draft amendments thereby represent an important tool in the fight against political corruption and aim to enhance transparency in political funding.

OSCE/ODIHR and the Venice Commission made five key recommendations for the improvement of the draft amendments to ensure the effectiveness of the provisions, as well as their full compliance with international standards.

This activity is part of the Council of Europe/European Union Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Eastern Partnership countries and specifically the project to “Support free and fair elections in Ukraine”.

Joint Opinion on the draft amendments to some legislative acts concerning prevention and fight against political corruption of Ukraine, adopted by the Council of Democratic Elections at its 52nd meeting (Venice, 22 October 2015) and by the Venice Commission at its 104th Plenary Session (Venice, 23-24 October 2015)
