Result of Community of Practice on local democracy in the Eastern Partnership

The Presidents of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM) and the Association of Ukrainian Cities (AUC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding for strengthened co-operation between their associations on 29 June in Kyiv.

This Memorandum of Understanding is a result of the discussions and excahnges held within the framework of the Community of Practice on local demoracy in the Eastern Partnership.

The Community of Practice involves experts and practitioners in the fields of local governance and ethics, representatives of national associations of local authorities and civil society. It has been established with the aim to serve as a unique platform for exchange on responses to concrete needs of local authorities in the region. It also provides the national associations with the opportunity to share good practices and reinforce networking.

The thematic programme “Strengthening institutional frameworks for local governance” is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, through the Partnership for Good Governance. It is implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, in close co-operation with the Directorate General for Democracy.
